From Neglect to Nurture: Reviving Spaces and Uniting Communities
The Sanoth Lake was an abandoned site with only an annual activity of the Chatth puja celebration. The opportunity to create an asset with the potential to become a wetland park & much-needed public space was envisaged.
A natural landscape with eco-friendly materials and space for all is created to engage locals and bridge the social gap. The annual Chatth Puja becomes an anchor cultural activity that binds the public discourse of owning the space as an important stakeholder. The treated water through a constructed wetland situated 1 km away that treated wastewater from the Ghogha drain effluent water was further polished through natural wetlands within the landscape area and put back into the lake.
The park features a 100m boardwalk, 1km jogging track, eco-island with dense plantation, wildflower meadow, play areas, & outdoor gym area, a 1,500-seat amphitheater, picnic lawn and water fountains, offering a sustainable, eco-friendly space for the community.
Ecological Impact:
•Restore the flora and fauna- sighting of migratory birds, kingfishers, and ducks.
•Enhanced Ground Water recharge with good quality of water.
•Clean water bodies result in the eradication of disease.
