Hanging Gardens The name is derived from the Greek word, which refers to trees being planted on a raised structure such as a terrace.
The ‘Hanging Garden’ designed on the terrace of A1 Barrack in the Red fort, Delhi is an homage and thematic representation of India’s vast and varied landscape. It showcases the palms of the tropical south India, the arid & dry landscape of the western India, and the winter bloom of the North & far East India. The essence of each theme is unique to its climate, soil composition and water availability.
The Hanging Garden seamlessly integrates various elements to create a distinctive experience for visitors. The design responds thoughtfully to the linear layout of the terrace, incorporating both landscaping and visitor accessibility. To break the monotony of the elongated terrace, triangular plant beds were introduced, adding a dynamic and engaging feel to the space.
The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the first Indian Art, Architecture & Design Biennale (IAADB) 2023 held at Red Fort from December 2023 to March 2024.
In collaboration with Cultre, the curators for the Biennale and in association with the Ministry of Culture, Govt of India, we designed and developed this terrace garden exhibition.
